WAP / MMS / GPRS Settings
Click
here for email settings for the V620
Unfortunately many users of the V620 have reported problems
setting up the phone to send MMS messages and to access the mobile internet
via GPRS (Particularly on the UK O2 network). Simply follow the steps
below to set up MMS and GPRS settings on your phone.
Step 1:
If you are on the O2 UK Pay and Go mobile network you
may firstly need to check that your account is "Data Activated"
which will allow you to send Multimedia Messages and connect to the
Mobile internet via GPRS. Most sims are automatically "Data activated"
the only main except being old O2 "Genie" sims. To do this
either ring O2 customer services (See your phonebook) or simply txt
PICON to 21400. You will recieve a reply saying your account
will be activated within 48 hrs. (Note: this service usually takes approximately
24 hrs). You will then be prompted to download the settings for your
phone. Click here
for the O2 website explaining this process.
Step 2:
Now to download new settings to your phone, if the ones
already on your phone don't work. Firstly try downloading the settings
automatically from the Motorola Site:
Visit http://www.hellomoto.com
, Select your contry, Select "Operator
Settings" from the menu, Select Operator settings from the drop
down box and after entering your email you will be drected to a page
( Here
) where you can select your phone/network and the settings for MMS and
for GPRS can be send via (Free) sms to your phone.
MMS:
Once you have downloaded the MMS settings a new file should appear called
"O2 UK MMS Prepay" (or simular) in: Menu --> Webaccess
--> Web Sessions . Check this file has been selected as your default
MMS settings in: Menu --> Messages --> Message Inbox --> Menu:
Setup --> MMS Message Setup and check that the "Sever Info"
field is set to the file you just recieved from Motorola. Note: Your
Phone should have set it as default automatically so in most cases you
wont have to change anything.
GPRS:
Once you have downloaded the GPRS / WAP settings a new file should appear
called "O2 WAP GPRS" (or simular) in: Menu --> Webaccess
--> Web Sessions . This file will have a padlock symbol next to it
and should already have been set as the default setting (A tick next
to it).
You should now be able to send MMS messages (Test this
by sending a message to yourself or a friend). If this works it means
your MMS is now working fine AND that your phone is using GPRS to send
it. Now try the Mobile Internet browser and if your lucky it should
successfully load the O2 Active WAP site (or your networks equivalent),
If not goto step 3.
Step 3:
If you still cannot send MMS then:
Click here for Virgin Pay-and-Go MMS Settings
for Manual o2 MMS settings.
Unfortunately the Browser of the V620 seems to be particularly
picky about which sites it will load and frequently says "Page
Cannot be displayed". If you can send MMS and have downloaded the
GPRS settings then it's probably a Browser problem rather than GPRS
related. Many users have reported that O2 do not currently support the
V620 and as such the O2 homepage doesn't work. Test this by entering
a url for a WAP site you know works and see if your phone loads it (Try
"http://www.grapnel.co.uk/extra").
If you can see some other WAP sites but not the O2 homepage then try
the following fix:
Goto: Menu --> Webaccess --> Web Sessions
Select [New] or if that's not available select one of the files you
won't need (i.e settings for some other network) and select EDIT.
Enter the following details:
(Note these settings are for O2 GPRS)
Name: (anything)
Homepage: http://wap.o2.co.ul/ndm/navigator/index (This
is the key setting)
Service Type 1: WAP

Sevice Type 2: WAP

GPRS APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk ("wap.o2.co.uk"
for Contract)
User Name: payandgo ("o2wap"
for Contract)
Password: password
Select [Done] and then use the Menu key to set this as
the Deafult setting.(A tick should appear next to it).
Now try connecting to WAP using the browser and the O2 homepage should
load. If not try it a few time s then goto Step 4.
Step 4:
If you've reached this point then theres only a few things
i can suggest:
- Alt O2 Fix : If you change the homepage back to http://wap.o2.co.uk,
Port 8080, Service Type HTTP then you should be able to load the O2
wapsite. This may however make you browsing a bit slower..?
- Alt O2 Fix : Alternatively you will have to give-up on O2 and use
the settings in step 3 but with some other site as your homepage (BBC
or Google e.t.c)
- Visit the Howard
Forums for more info/tips on how to get it working.
- Search google for stuff such as "v620 GPRS settings" "v620
MMS settings"..
- Good Luck.. p.s If you find a website that is particularly helpful
please contact me so I can provide a link to it on this site to help
other v620 owners.
